Window onto the landscape of history and belief. It has been waiting more than a thousand years for you. This is where pilgrims come to rest, where ancient caravans stop to take water. From here you can make out Rome, Venice, Ithaca, Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus, Timbuktu…

Necessity or intuition have brought you here. Now you too are Gar-anat and its mystery, a place of sentiment where rationality is mere artifice and feeling is the only true path.

This pilgrim's refuge is not just a hotel. It is gradually being filled with personalities and stories, both real and fictitious. It wants to grow further with your preoccupations and dreams, your emotions, the dialogue between our guests and their experiences. As if it were a stage, in its rooms, lounges, halls and patio we have placed items by way of clues, simply to stimulate your imagination and prowess. So go ahead. Esto no es un hotel, es un lugar habitado por una utopía, la de que las ideas, los sueños y los deseos son a menudo más reales y siempre más creadores de existencia en común; es decir, de ciudades, que las cosas consumibles o susceptibles de tráfico mercantil.

La utopía es sencilla. Creemos en una ciudad, pero en una ciudad distinta, viva, en permanente desarrollo, sutil, movida por la belleza y el afecto, movida por el deseo de trascendencia, una ciudad soñada en la Alhambra y que se atisba aún en rincones y plazas del Albayzin, del Realejo, en los patios de monasterios y conventos... 

Gar-anat and El Ladrón de Agua

El Ladrón de Agua is set in a 16th-century building and focuses on a book of poetry written in 1924 by Juan Ramón Jiménez after a visit to the city. It is this hotel’s elder brother, and together they form a whole for all our guests… El Ladrón de Agua is open to art and culture. It is a focal point for a concept of the city as home for free, creative people… Gar-anat is a citadel under constant development by the pilgrims who come… The two of them, along with the path between them, form a whole…

The Path of the Three Hills

When you get here we will suggest a pilgrimage between these two places, (Gar-Anat Hotel de Peregrinos and El Ladrón de Agua, avoiding a straight line, looking for the long way round, because that is where beauty lies). This route (which will take at least half a day) has a prize, although the best prize of all will be that of knowledge and creative magic.
